This first volume begins with the reinvigoration of the McKinley high School glee club by idealistic Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison).
Mr.
Shu, as his students call him, was a member of the glee club back in its award-winning heyday, and he wants to return the club to its former glory.
But times have changed, and the glee club members now find themselves at the bottom of the school caste system, thanks in part to cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (the always excellent Jane Lynch), who resents having to share school money and resources.
That doesn't deter Will, though.
He only becomes more determined to grow their little singing group into a full-blown show choir capable of competing respectably in the upcoming sectionals against other local high schools.
